Wow. GSD&M has eight or more Group Creative Directors, plus a similar number of Creative Directors. And they've hired an ASSOCIATE Creative Director over all those people. That makes a strong statement about the creative status at Cripsin, and the lack of it at GSD&M.

anonymous - you're a little too hung up on titles.

rearranging the deck chairs wouldn't help.

it's about bringing new insight and creative standards to the place and few people in the country have more creative skins than Mark Taylor right now.

To Party at the Moontower:

You missed my point. I didn't say they needed to promote one of the people already there. I was merely pointing out the relative status in the creative world. An ACD at Crispin trumps a CD at GSD&M, an many other agencies as well. So I actually think we're in agreement.

But not on everything. "...few people in the industry have more creative skins...." You're kidding, right? Mark's a very talented guy, no doubt about it. But one of the reasons the job is attractive to him is that he'd been passed over for a senior leadership post at Crispin. Several people there had more "creative skins." That doesn't mean he won't do great things in Austin, but it doesn't elevate him to the exalted status you give him. And it's not like he was the first choice for GSDM. A number of people on their list wouldn't even talk to them about the job. And they thought they'd hooked someone earlier - Steve Basset from The Martin Agency -- who backed out at the last minute.

Hmmm.

Mark Taylor was integral in creating the same Crispin mystique that you're saying allowed him to go to GSD&M over others around the country in the first place. Agreed?

It's also not the first time that experienced and deserving creatives have been ACDs. Ever heard of Bob Barrie?

And yes, Steve Basset was on the list. So what? I think you could hear a collective sigh of relief coming from Austin when they went down their initial list of choices.

Last comment. You're not going to be Alex at Crispin. And you're not going to be Andrew. And now that you know you're not going to be Rob Reilly, why would you not set out on your own?

Just some things to think about. It's just nice that a change has been made at GSD&M and a true creative is at the helm of the department.

Austin deserves that kind of shop.

Peace.
